Every year on International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8, people around the world come together to honor the achievements, resilience, and
contributions of women in every aspect of life. It is a day of celebration, reflection, and a reminder of the importance of equality and empowerment in our societies.
For us at the Indian Cultural Association Wiesbaden (ICAW), this day holds special meaning. Living away from our homeland in the beautiful city of Wiesbaden, our community becomes a bridge that connects us to our culture, traditions, and shared identity.
Women at the Heart of ICAW
One of the things I am most proud of as a core member of ICAW is the strong presence of women in our leadership and organizing team. Many talented, dedicated, and passionate women contribute their time and energy to building this community.
From planning cultural events and festivals to supporting families who are new to the city, these women bring creativity, empathy, and strength to everything they do. Their efforts help make ICAW not just an organization, but a warm and welcoming home for the Indian community here.
A Personal Reflection
As a woman, a writer by profession, and a core member of ICAW, this day is deeply meaningful to me. Writing has always been my way of expressing stories, emotions, and experiences. Being part of this community allows me to witness countless inspiring stories of women who balance careers, families, traditions, and new opportunities while living abroad.
Every woman carries her own journey…one filled with courage, adaptation, and determination. In a diaspora community like ours, these journeys become even more inspiring as women often take on the role of preserving culture while embracing new environments.
Inspired by Women Who Came Before Us
Indian history and culture have always been shaped by remarkable women whose courage and vision continue to inspire us. Women like Rani Lakshmibai, Sarojini Naidu, and Kalpana Chawla remind us that determination and passion can transcend boundaries. Their stories encourage us to dream bigger, support one another, and continue creating positive change in our communities.
Celebrating the Women Around Us
On this International Women’s Day, I would like to celebrate not only the iconic women in history but also the incredible women within our ICAW community… friends, mothers, daughters, professionals, volunteers, and leaders.
Your strength, kindness, and dedication are what make this community vibrant and inspiring.
Let us continue to support each other, celebrate our achievements, and build a future where every woman’s voice is valued and every dream is encouraged.
Happy International Women’s Day to all the wonderful women in our community and to the incredible women across the world who continue to inspire, lead, and uplift others.
