A Memorable Evening of Classical Indian Music in Wiesbaden

On 20th September 2025, the Indian Cultural Association Wiesbaden (ICAW), in association with Förderverein Trommel e.V., presented a Classical Indian Music Concert featuring the globally renowned vocalist Shri Anol Chatterjee, accompanied by Shri Koushik Bannerjee on tabla, Shri Arpan Bhattacharya on harmonium. The opening performance was by Michael Robinson who enthralled the audience with popular melodies on vocals and guitar.

The Power of Indian Music

Indian classical music is a vast and profound tradition. Each Raag (melodic framework) has its own mood, timing, and emotion. The rhythm cycles, called Taal, involve complex mathematical patterns — yet they flow with such grace that they seem effortless.

During the concert, Shri Anol Chatterjee not only performed brilliantly but also explained the beauty and depth of raags to the audience. He described how every note and cycle has its own discipline, while the tabla and harmonium responded dynamically to his voice. This musical conversation on stage was a discovery for many in the German audience, who experienced the interplay of melody and rhythm for the first time.

A Cozy, Enriching Gathering

About 55 people attended the cozy evening concert. For many, it was their first encounter with Indian classical music, and the response was full of curiosity and appreciation. The local audience in particular was fascinated by the mathematical precision behind the rhythms and the emotional richness of the vocals.

Gratitude

We sincerely thank Förderverein Trommel e.V. for their generous support, without which this evening would not have been possible. Our heartfelt gratitude also goes to all ICAW volunteers and members, who gave their time and energy to ensure the success of the event.

It was not just a concert — it was a bridge between cultures, showing how timeless melodies can connect hearts across continents. Events like this truly establish ICAW as an organisation dedicated to promoting Indian culture — from music to arts and crafts — in the city of Wiesbaden.
