ICAW at the 48th Interkulturelle Sommerfest, Wiesbaden

On September 6, ICAW proudly participated in the 48th Interkulturelle Sommerfest at Schlossplatz Wiesbaden – a festival that has, for almost five decades, celebrated “Vielfalt und Weltoffenheit – Gemeinsam in Wiesbaden.” This long-standing event is a true “Fest der Begegnung,” where cultural diversity, democracy, and peaceful togetherness in Wiesbaden come alive.

At our ICAW stall, visitors were introduced to the richness of Indian traditional art: Warli, with its simple geometric forms narrating village life and community spirit; Madhubani, filled with vibrant colours and symbols rooted in Indian folklore; and Gond art, inspired by the natural world and celebrated for its rhythmic patterns. Children joined freely in the painting activities, their concentration and fearless use of colour reflecting innocence and creativity – a joy for us as artists to witness.

Around 70 children eagerly joined the activity at ICAW stall, filling the space with colour, creativity, and laughter. With crayons in their little hands, they brought their fearless and colourful imaginations to life on paper, exploring the beauty of Indian traditional art forms in their own unique ways.

Watching their focus, innocence, and joy was truly heart-warming, and for ICAW it was deeply satisfying to provide them with a free and open space to express themselves.

The children’s favourite was a motif of animals and fishes (Gond Art) and a decorated elephant (Madhubani).

ICAW founding member Preeti Bhosale shared how our journey in art began by learning from her mother, and continuing that tradition in Wiesbaden brought deep meaning. Neha B Upadhayay, President and founding member of ICAW, dedicated her participation to her brother and sister-in-law in India, both renowned artists with special abilities, who inspire their resilience and talent.

We were honoured by the visit of the Mayor of Wiesbaden, who appreciated our contribution to the city’s diversity. For ICAW, it was a proud moment to showcase how Indian traditional art carries not only joy and spirituality, but also builds bridges of intercultural connection in Wiesbaden.
I am very thankful to ICAW and Mr. Gomes for this opportunity.
